Children of Heroes

Artboard 1.png

On the occasion of Czech Armed Forces Day on June 28, the embassy launched a new long-term project called "Children of Heroes".

Thousands of Czechoslovak men and women fought for our freedom in the United Kingdom during the Second World War. Many of them started stayed here and began new families or returned here after the war. Owing to the time that has passed since the war, few veterans are still with us today. However, their legacy lives on through their descendants. This was the main motivation behind this project.

The Children of Heroes project aims to recognize the brave Czechoslovak airmen who settled, married and had children in the UK during the war. It gives their descendants and relatives a chance to tell their stories to the world.

The project has two main goals; to map the 'Children of Heroes' living in the UK and to give them the chance to express themselves about their parents' lives and themselves. This is done via a series of videos published on our website and social media.

The musical author for this series is the world-famous British composer, Mr. Julian Anderson.

If you are a descendant or a family member of a Czechoslovak veteran from the Second World War and would like to become part of our project, please contact the Czech embassy press attaché via e-mail at press.london@embassy.mzv.cz
